The Project
Construction of a 12m high two-lane bridge to provide a link from the docks to the site of former Sheerness Steel Mill, Kent. The bridge is part of a £50m investment by Peel Ports.

Our Involvement
We were engaged in a joint venture with EAG Construction to construct the cast in-situ bridge and our work included:
• Abutments
• Pile caps
• Bridge deck

Challenges
One of the challenges in this particular project was obtaining final “for construction” design drawings from the ultimate client. In order to ensure progress towards finalisation we held regular meetings with our client, Sisk and Peel’s representatives to ensure that all were aware of the need to achieve design sign-off in time for the construction programme.

Innovation
A key innovation on this project was to utilise the skills and experience of our team and have the rebar cut and bent rebar on site wherever possible. This saved considerable time on deliveries and reduced the possibility of delays being caused because of late arrival of items on site.

Key Achievements
The project was completed 2 weeks ahead of schedule.

Our joint venture with SCL proved a tremendous success and a key part of the successful completion of this project ahead of schedule. Utilising in-house skills to create the rebar wherever possible meant that considerable time was saved and potential risks from supplier delays were reduced considerably.
